Indie Music Promotion, Underground Bands, Free Music Recommendations, Revere
69Many bands don't get the recognition they deserve. Charities like Strummerville are helping to redress the balance in this by sponsoring and resourcing talent. It can take years of indie music promotion to get band's work out there. In this series of articles, I intend to help by sharing my knowledge of some fantastic indie bands that I have discovered. These underground bands need some spotlight. Much of the arts have difficulties in getting work out there but how can anyone possibly appreciate something that they have no knowledge of? It is here that I will expose you to special music recommendations.
Music Recommendations: Revere
There are times that something can hit the hairs on your skin and make you stand up and listen. Well, Revere had done this with me. My goose bumps are always an indication that the sounds hitting my ears have set off a euphoric chain reaction. Of course, I listen to my body - it is rare that music can do this for me, but when it does, I know that the note has been struck.
I stumbled upon Revere a few months ago by chance via Sky TV's Classic FM music
channel - it is now called O Music, I believe. I will never normally provide music recommendations to the unwitting public unless I whole heartedly believe in the band. I research, critise and watch the band for quite a while before I write about them. It is only the best that get here. However, it is 'The Escape Artist' (2008) that initiated my interest in this band. Apart from being a beautiful piece, I have included it in this indie music promotion section. Please do take some time out to listen and watch this video.
Now if you enjoy post punk and dark indie from alternative indie artists, then Revere is the band for you. They are one of those great underground bands that are good enough to make it to the big time. In fact they have just been cited as one's to watch by Ents24. Revere Comparable To Arcade Fire
Revere are an eight piece band and, as you can imagine, this produces a big sound comparable to the likes of Arcade Fire. They were formed in 2005 and have evolved into an eight piece from the three founder members - Stephen Ellis, Andrew Hawke and Jonathan Fletcher. The band line up now consists of the following:
- Stephen Ellis - Vocals, Guitars
- Jonathan Fletcher - Guitars
- Andrew Hawke - Bass, Vocals
- Marc Rollins - Drums, Percussion
- Ellie Wilson - Violin
- Nathaniel Mumford - Trumpet, Glockenspiel
- Kathleen Mckie - Cello
- Nicholas Hirst - Keys, Vocals
The addition of cello, violin and trumpets give the band an classical feel but, boy can they rock!
Although Revere has a quite a back catalogue already, their actual debut album is soon to be released here in the UK, titled 'Hey Selim'. Their music has the intentive beauty and sensitivity of Elbow, the gypsy vibe of Beirut and, at times, the autism of Editors.
My next indie music promotion video that I want to draw you attention to is my personal favourite. However, I am a bit of death diva and this could prove to a bit disturbing to some people. This piece, however, does as said on the tin - provides deep, irrevokable feelings. I love it... it is called 'Skin'.

BBC Radio 6 Music are sentenced to death. This is a cost cutting exercise! The establishment wins again by denying opportunity to working class talent!

Revere Live And New Single - We Won't Be Here Tomorrow
I saw Revere play at The Lanes in Bristol. Did they cut the mustard? An absolute and resounding YES! Stephen is a force in himself, whilst the keyboardist zones himself into a stupour. Of course the ladies, remained composed and... err.. lady-like - well how are classically trained musicians supposed to act? There was a real team effort going on here and they all seemed to gel very well.
An interesting back-drop to the music added images of trains and old footage. It reminded me of when Iliketrains started out. In fact some of the long, whining highly reverbed guitar rifts brought me back to the train station days of Spencer Percieval.
Stephen introduced himself to me. He seems highly motivated and focused. You can tell where the driving force comes from. He is lead singer, guitarist, roadie and salesman for Revere's CDs - he puts in 101% into his craft!
It is important to be in touch with your fans and, in today's world of high competition in music, to be approachable and interactive is one of the keys to success. Revere can not be faulted for this! Even on receipt of an order, you will find them giving more - signed CDs, extras and free downloads. They are certainly doing everything possible to draw attention and this seems to be working! Tom Robinson of BBC Radio show Introducing has picked up Revere's musical genius and BBC 6 Music has asked Revere for a recorded session, although I haven't had the honour of hearing this.
It seems that Revere have now developed their foundation and are about to peep out from the world of underground bands with their new single We Won't Be Here Tomorrow. This new single is a lot more commercially viable. However, I hope that 'We Won't Be Here Tomorrow' indicates a movement out of the underground scene toward an indie Utopia of success not dissimilar to the likes of Editors and Arcade Fire.
Unfortunately, for me though, when commercialisation becomes involved, I find that great indie band's like Revere, have to sell out by watering down their musical formula to appease the masses. It is when this happens that I have to move on and search the next great indie underground band. However, if any band deserves success, it is Revere - 'go off and become great, my children!' Take a look at We Won't Be Here Tomorrow video and make your own mind up.

Thinking Outside of The Box: Revere
Revere are an underground band. However, they seem to be having some spotlights pointing to their direction and about time too! It took Elbow years to be recognised for their genius but, in contrast, Revere just needs that extra push from people like you and me to get their work out there. This is what indie music promotion is about. I won't be paid for writing this - just on the advertising. It is a public service that I am providing so as good music isn't left out in the cold. TV creates artificial stars, within the box, via the might of the Simon Cowell money factory. He spins another cog in the wheel. Long live music recommendations from the people who truly love music and appreciate good song writing. Let us, the people, refuse to be kept inside the box!

Thank you for these recommendations, Shaz. I am always looking for new and exceptional music! Good hub!
Didn't know too much about Revere so you have given me a great overview and appreciation - thanks!
A well written hub on Revere. Reading about bands are always fasinates one, if someone very new to it ( like me ), then he must gain some knowledge. Thank you for sharing such an entertaining knowledgable hub. Well done. Enjoy.
I like Reveres music and it is new for me as I was not familiar with them. They have a unique sound. Good hub.
Thank you for insightful account of a wonderful band.... someone needs to organise a massive venue for their music... I think somewhere like the Pyramid at Glastonbury would fit what they can do... they are a band who could really make the most of that venue
Really good hub. You should accept indie music submissions on music xray if you want to increase the number of indie musicians that you post. These indie musicians really need to have more people like you out there listening to their music.
Shaz - as I have been busy all last week packing my parents up (they moved to california and 40 years in the same house. . oy I am exhausted) anyway I see I have alot of catching up to do and I am glad I landed on your fabulous Indie Hubs! Loving the 'Escape Artist' as I type! Terrific excellent and I am loving having some 'new' music!!! Oh and almost forgot to mention I love your blue breaks. . they look fab:)

Revere is a pretty good band. I heard they are big Tim Burton fans so that's a plus for me as well!
