I keep it in a special box,

All tied with ribbons and bows,

Heaven knows my sacred truth,

And I, of course, who knows!

No amount of sorting and dumping,

Can throw this hidden lot,

This special box – it looks so sweet,

With bows and ribbons at its feet!

Sometimes I dare to open,

I anticipate for sure,

Sugar icing tastes so sweet,

I have to ask for more!

My box is for my special times,

When I can be alone,

And it’s so full of treasured things,

That feel so much like home.

I caress its satin smoothness,

And kiss it fondly too,

Its never-ending depth ness,

Is shared with but a few.

But only I can know its fullness,

Its intimate details,

For I’ve seen it in the darkness,

In the midst of where it sails.

I consume the gifts so gently,

And I hold the objects dear,

The box holds depths so bitter sweet,

But still they are so near.

So why is this box so precious?

Why would I guard so close,

The box holds my very essence,

For that what I cherish the most!

Contained within the box is my life. It is my thoughts, memories and who I am. It is my mind and my soul.

When I am bored or lonely, I always have one thing that I can count on to amuse and relive – it is my box.

I open the box and out pops feelings, actions and empathy from times past – still as fresh as the morning, but wiser than the event. I gain a new understanding – a renewed perspective as I reflect on these memories past.

This is instant access with a difference! Better than television and greater than the original action. Why else would I answer the question “Where’s the party?” for there is only one place… “In my head!”

Well there you are! You have now delved into my darkest self. It can only happen in a poetry reading, eh? I have always thought I was a bit odd but now have confirmed it for the world to see! Baring my soul in the form of free poetry, on the world wide web, might be viewed as a bit cheap, but I got to wondering... is there anyone else out there who thinks like me?
