The children looked very smart, all dressed up in their best clothes - laughing and waving!
Today was one of those 'special days'
Ollie the big red bus lived in a town, where he took people to where they wanted to go every day. He loved going around the town, stopping at the bus-stops outside the shops, schools and factories. But what Ollie liked best of all was taking the school children for trips out. Today was one of those 'special days', and today he and his best friend Bertie, were going to take the children from their school, to the big airport.
It was a bright, clear morning when Ollie and Bertie trundled up to the school gates. All the children were waiting for them, laughing and waving as the friends drew up. The children looked very smart, all dressed up in their best clothes. Very quickly they climbed onto the buses, and with a ting of the bell, Ollie and Bertie set off along the road which led out of the town.
Today Ollie and his best friend Bertie, were going to take the children from their school, to the big airport.
At the Airport
Bill, Ollie's conductor, whistled a tune as he stood on the platform by the stairs, and in no time at all, the children were singing the tune as well. "Oh what a lovely day", said Ollie, and all the trees that stood along the road, thought so too, for they nodded their branches as he sped past. It did not take long for them to reach the airport, and Ollie stood with Bertie near the runway, watching the aeroplanes take off and land, while the children watched from the top of the terminal building.
A little aeroplane landed a short distance from where the friends stood, and after it's pilot had got out, Ollie asked the little plane what his name was, and he replied, 'Archie'. "Oh tell me what it is like to fly?" asked Ollie eagerly. Archie smiled, and told him how he skips between the fluffy white clouds, and soured over the countryside, seeing all the animals in the fields, looking oh so tiny far below.
Oh Archie, what is it like to fly?
Ollie was entranced. If only he could fly, if only he
could dance between the clouds, and play in the blue sky; and as he
listened to his new friend, the soft whisper of his voice seemed to join
with the gentle buzz of all the other engines, and it was so soothing,
that he started to drift into another world.
Ollie Is Flying!
Ollie had wings. They were silver, and glistened in the sunshine. Where his radiator used to be, was now a big flat propeller. Roar went Ollies engine, and the propeller turned round and round. Ollies big black tyres turned as well, and he started moving along the runway. Faster and faster he went, and suddenly he left the ground and soared up into the blue sky.
Higher and higher he went, birds flapping their wings to get out of his way. On through the white clouds, until he was so high that he could see the countryside for miles around. He saw fields that he knew were really very big, looking like tiny squares, and he saw roads winding their way between them. On the roads were cars moving so slowly, that they seemed hardly to move at all.
Ollie swooped down back through the clouds. He turned and twisted in the blue sky, his wings sparkling in the sunshine. Then he felt sick. He remembered all the diesel that Sam, the man who looked after Ollie, and all the other buses at the big garage, had put into his tank that morning; and he felt it gurgling and sloshing about.
The little white clouds had turned black, and had now grown very large. A cold wind blew up, and started to whip at him from every direction at once. Then icy hale and rain stung his red paint, and he wished he were back on the ground.
Big tears dropped from Ollies head-lamps, as he tried to return to the airport, but the more he tried, the further away the airport got. "Oh dear, oh dear, what shall i do?" he cried, shaking all over, and the more he cried the more he shook, until he woke up to Bertie shaking him with his wing-mirror.
" Oh i've had such a bad dream", said Ollie to his friend. "I dreamt that i could fly, and it was not as nice as i thought it would be". Bertie nudged up to Ollie, and said, "it's always good to do what you are best at doing, and after all it was only a flight of fancy". And the two friends laughed at Berties joke until their headlights wobbled.

Shacz, What a cute story. You are very talented at writing children's stories. You probably should put together a book of short children's stories or maybe that is already your plan. Good hub.
