An English Traditional Charity Shop - One Of The Best Of British Institutions
Charity shop purchases have become an English traditional
part of many English people’s lives.
From the 70’s the Charity Shop has become a standard feature on our High
Streets. Many would agree that the charity shop is one of the best of British institutions.
Charities from major organisations like the British Red Cross, British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK, to more minor institutions, have been actively encouraged by our local authorities to stand side by side with major chain stores.
These authorities offer knock down rents and very low, if not zero-rated, charges – there are huge subsidises. As a result, in recent years, the humble charity shop has grown and flourished. However, it seems that, many Charitable Organisations now offer a different way of shopping – the online charity shop has been born!
Ebay For Charity? Now You Can Find a Favourite Online Charity Shop!
This English traditional activity of purchasing pre-owned items are not only offered on the High Street, but online too. You might find an online charity shop on e-bay, on Amazon or independently. Even the English traditional method of volunteering may have changed.
You will find a kindly person volunteering their time behind the counter of an English traditional charity shop. However, such volunteering has diversified. This can now be done online.
The volunteer may sell their items independently and make a donation from the proceeds of this. E-bay offers this service more than any other online business. They sponsor a charity and can automatically donate a percentage of the sale, if the seller or buyer chooses, at the close of bidding.
Ebay for Charity has also set up unique opportunities for selling items online with the intent of raising money. You can click Online Charity - Ebay Success Stories for more information. If you click on this link, Ebay For Charity Index, you will find lots of information about the various charities that have special items for sale.
Furthermore, there are numerous links here to help you find a favourite online charity shop for you to scroll through should you wish. The advent of online shopping has, indeed, changed the English traditional way of buying from charities and has opened up choices for people to sell and volunteer.

(The only one found that sells pre-owned items)
- The Greeting’s Card Company for charity cards.
- Chocolate Aid buy to feed the hungry
English Traditional Behaviour Has Changed - The Charity Shop Has Been Transferred to the Buzz of the Auction Bidding Process!
The charity shop has always been interesting to the frugal English person. It has offered wears that can’t be found elsewhere. Items like retro clothing, for example. Purchasing such items is increasingly popular - there is nothing like the real McCoy! However, the modern way of purchasing such items online from charities has become very popular, especially for young adults. They tend to prefer to do much of their purchases online, more so than their older counterparts.
It seems this has become the preferred method of providing the ‘buzz’ that we acquire when buying from a charity shop. The English traditional behaviour, therefore, has changed. The buzz of the rummage and bustle of the charity shop has been transferred to the buzz of the auction bidding process offered by e-bay. If you want to learn to cheat this, please click on Win Ebay Auctions by Sniping.

Online Charity on Ebay
By transferring this human behaviour to purchasing from an online charity shop, it provides comfort and convenience. However, I may add that the hub of purchasing pre-owned goods from an online charity shop seems to be an e-bay phenomenon rather than directly from the online charity itself.
One Of The Best Of English Traditional Activities Is Now Online
So here you have it. One of the best of English traditional activities can be done online! Purchasing pre-owned items from your local charity shop has expanded. With the help of local government subsidy, free voluntary labour and the advent of e-bay, this Englishman’s hobby has grown. You can now purchase unusual items within walking distance of your home and in comfort by visiting your favourite online charity shop via the Internet.

A very well written hub about this topic. Well done. Enjoy.

Hiya, I didn't know about the online charity shops, I do shop in some of them, but we have about four in our tiny little town, and only one of them is really good. but then I did work in it for a while! lol I never realised that they were updating and redesigning some of the clothes like in the video. great info. thanks again nell
yep - SALVAtion Army's
There's lots of useful info in this Hub. A lot of people are now buying from Charities and it's good because it means the Charities receive more money.
Best Wishes. :)
This is really neat, Shaz!!!! Thanks a bunch for sharing!
Love poking around charity shops, great hub
Shaz, Great hub. You can find some real deals that way. There are a lot of great second hand charity shops around here also.
Shaz, this was a good and timely hub. I've been going to lots of second-hand stores since money has been an issue for me lately. There are many nice things to be found, and I have brought some suff in that I didn't need any more, also. The tight economy has brought about a new age, and there has never been a better time for second hand shops.
Thanks for sharing.
Mike
How about that! We call them op shops in Australia (don't ask me why), but I have yet to come across an online version. I'm sure they'll get here though!
Thanks a lot for this hub. It was exactly what I was looking for! I'm always happy to buy some things from a charity organization cause I'm pretty sure that part of my contribution will go for a good cause. Whether is protecting animals or helping people in need.
