Did King Arthur Exist? Bones Found In Glastonbury

There are many people who would like to think that the story of King Arthur, Merlin and the Knights of the Round Table did exist.

It is, indeed, a romantic view of brutal times in the land of Britain.

The question you need to ask yourself is did King Arthur really exist or is he just a myth?

Where is the evidence?

Glastonbury is a very magical place. People experience many different things. These are personal to them. This is just one story, I am sure of many, that happened to me long before I moved to this green and pleasant land.

In this article, I tell of a mysterious account of the recovery of some bones pertaining to King Arthur and Queen Guinevere.

It was around the time of my Marian apparition - I have already written about this- however, you can read more from the link at the bottom of this article.

I was with my friend. We decided to visit the world renown Glastonbury Abbey. This was mainly destroyed by Henry VIII in the time of the dissolution (the destruction of the Catholic church - and those who were associated with it - for the creation of the Church of England).

It was a lovely, bright day. We meandered around the ruins and took in the general ambiance. It was just outside the outskirts of the building that Julian (my friend) and I discovered a plaque. It said 'Here lies the bones of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere'.

I remember being quite excited and joyfully boasted to Julian, "I TOLD you, he existed! I was RIGHT!" He was a little surprised, but agreed.

We asked an employee of the Abbey, inside the centre, for more information. Around us was a couple of stone caskets, one in front of the other, and was told that the bones were found in these. Apparently, when they were discovered, Queen Guinevere's coffin was positioned at the feet of King Arthur's casket.

We were told that they were positioned in this manner because Guinevere had wronged Arthur by loving Sir Lancelot (one of the greatest Knights of the Round Table of the Castle of Camelot, supposedly situated at the nearby Cadbury in Somerset).

This made sense to me.

However, I couldn't understand why no one else knew this?

With the various searches for the Holy Grail, surely you would have thought that seekers and Researchers would have highlighted this in books and documentaries?

But to avail, there didn't seem to be much on this.

I was excited to tell of our story to my family and friends. In fact, I convinced them to take a trip with me to Glastonbury and, as a part of our break, take a look at the area.

Within a few weeks, we were all there at Glastonbury Abbey.

I went to the area that the bones were deemed to be recovered.

There was nothing there. I was devastated!

What had they done with the plaque and the bones?

I must say, I was quite distressed!

We went into the information area and I approached an on-site tourist advisor.

"Where are the bones of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere?" I asked.

"There are no bones here." He said.

"There was a plaque over there only a few weeks ago. They said that the bones of the King and Queen were found there!"

He replied, "Many, many years ago, there were bones found, but no one knows whether it was King Arthur and Queen Guinevere."

He went on to highlight that, as far as he was aware, there hasn't been a plaque stating anything for as long as he had worked at the Abbey - he had worked there for a number of years!

There must have been, I thought, some evidence for why would there be this?....

Bemused and confused, even to this day, I still can not explain what had happened. I had visited Glastonbury Abbey and seen the site of where the bones of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere had lain. Whether you choose to believe is down to you, but I know that I was blessed with something magical. But that is Glastonbury, afterall, a place of myth, magic and legend. Is it any wonder that it is now my home?
