Autistic Spectrum Disorder, MRI Brain Scan Diagnoses In Aspergers Autism
80Asperger's Syndrome Effects 1% Of The Population
This article tells you about some wonderful developments in autism. Asperger’s syndrome is a condition that effects about 1% of the population. There is a lengthy diagnosis procedure that often takes a team of specialist people to formulate what, might be considered, a subjective diagnosis. A new scanning method that takes approximately 15 minutes has been developed to help diagnose an autistic spectrum disorder accurately. This is a procedure that confirms or clarifies ASD in a very reliable manner. For this breakthrough in a brilliant research technique that can change the lives of many, please read more!

Brain Scanning Produces 90% Accuracy
The good news is that through brain scans, scientists have managed to identify parts of the brain associated with autism, when comparing with an ordinary functioning brain. This is with 90% accuracy, according to the institute of psychiatry at Kings College, London.

Autism Diagnosis Through Brain Scanning
Asperger's Syndrome And Miss Diagnosis
In the past, people with Asperger’s syndrome had to go through an extensive diagnosis process with a team of experts. This would be time consuming, floored with miss-diagnosis and often led to some people labelled with mental health problems. Of course, many would be treated with medications and therapies that were inappropriate due to the problems in diagnosing this learning difficulty.

Asperger's Syndrome Is A Very Individualised Condition
Autistic spectrum disorders, like Asperger’s syndrome, is a condition associated with difficulties and anxieties within a social setting. This is a very individual condition. Some people suffer more in one aspect to the condition than others. Mix this with the individuality in personality, problems with sequencing, reading body language and heightened sensory states (i.e. hypersensitivity to taste, touch, smell, hearing and sight); it is understandable that such miss diagnosis is not a rarity.

MRI Brain Scanning Diagnoses Asperger's Syndrome Within 15 Minutes
Through MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), a diagnostic of autistic spectrum disorder, lasting only 15 minutes, is a real break through in autism. The benefits of quick diagnoses, for those who have lived life undiagnosed with this condition, in this non-evasive manner, is a boom. This will provide a basis to self-help for the individual in daily living and will provide the evidence that many people who have autistic spectrum disorder, like Asperger’s syndrome, crave.
For children, diagnosis can provide a path through their young lives that, in the past, was masked with a perpetual dream state and misunderstanding. For them, they will be able to have educational and care plans put in place so as they can reach their full potential.

People With Autism Have Differences In Brain Anatomy
With brain scanning, measuring the differences, comparing and contrasting between a conventional brain and someone with autism, produces a result that can not be disputed.
"We know already that people with autism have differences in brain anatomy and some regions are just bigger and smaller or just different in shape," said Christine Ecker of King’s College Institute of Psychiatry, London. "Our technique can use this information to identify someone with autism."

These unique articles will provide you with a view on what to look out for with an autistic spectrum disorder. I also cover the effects on people who have autism but have been left undiagnosed. I refer to these people as a lost generation. As you might conclude, therefore, the development with a brain scan that diagnoses autism for these people is a real break through.

interesting developments. Might help diagnose girls easier too? They slip through the cracks as present differently from boys
I fully understand how an autistic child could be anxious about an MRI scan, I am anxious when in enclosed spaces. However, it is progress and when it comes to autism this can only be a good thing. Keep spreading the good news Shaz.
Shaz an excellent article and welcome news to what must be a very diffcult to go through. Iw as not aware one percent of the population suffered from Asprgers so this si indeed a very far reaching development. I agree it can be a scary, locked in feeling getting an MRI. I can only imagine what it would be like with aspergers.
Shaz, this is a wonderful piece, full of hope for discovering the "hidden" generation of girls and women who deal with Aspergers. I personally think there are millions out there, even more than 1%. For example, there's research tying ADD without hyperactivity to the autism spectrum. I would tend to use caution when trying to rely on a single test for diagnosis - tho the MRI will be a great tool. Some labs give the patients earphones for music of their choice and cover their eyes if they wish. It worked for me!
Yes, it would be VERY controversial if we could identify behaviors people are prone to based on their genetics or brain chemistry. Knowing it wouldn't make it easier for them to control their behavior, tho. What ethical dilemmas for individuals and society. Maybe we really don't want to know!
very good hub and needed information, to parents who are desperatly trying to help their child, it is very hard to fully understand this disorder, but it does help to have a proper diagnosis
Have definitely some kids at our school with undiagnosed aspergers!
Wonderful news; article could use a copy editor: it's "misdiagnosis" not Miss Diagnosis. Thank you for sharing the news. Would be great if procedure was not cost prohibitive in the States. Going through Asperger's diagnosis process now (three years of doctor after doctor for my son and lots of anxiety).

This is amazing Shaz. I was just watching the early news over here and there was a story on the MRI brain scanning, such a hopeful development. Great article as always my friend. xx
